Mimecast Brings Local Data Residency to Southeast Asia and Hong Kong, With No Trade-off in Protection
Customers in seven markets can now keep their data in Singapore, on the same platform that secures humans, data, and AI everywhere else
Key Points
- Available today: Mimecast customers in Singapore, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Taiwan and Thailand can now host data locally.
- Same platform, same pace: Customers in the region get the full Mimecast platform, built to the performance benchmarks and SLAs customers demand, with new capabilities, including AI, reaching them as fast as anywhere else.
- A clear answer on data residency: Security, compliance, and risk leaders get a straightforward answer about where their data is stored and processed.
Where data is hosted has become its own line of questioning for organizations across the globe, separate from how well a vendor secures it. Risk committees, procurement teams, and boards are increasingly asking exactly where sensitive data lives. For companies handling email, communications, and compliance data, hosting that sits outside their own borders can raise questions that have nothing to do with the strength of the underlying technology.
Starting today, organizations across Singapore, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Taiwan, and Thailand can have their data stored in Singapore while leveraging the full Mimecast platform, hosted on AWS.
This fits a pattern bigger than any one market. As data sovereignty and residency expectations spread across industries and geographies, "good enough" hosting somewhere convenient is giving way to a harder question: exactly where, and under whose laws. Mimecast has been building toward that answer for years, standing up dedicated regional infrastructure in the UK and Germany and independent deployments in Canada, Australia, and South Africa, each shaped around the residency expectations of that market. Singapore is the newest addition, and the first time this approach has extended to Southeast Asia and Hong Kong.
A service built for the region, not a separate product
Singapore hosting isn't a stripped-down or regional variant of Mimecast. It runs the same code and the same underlying infrastructure as every other Mimecast region, operated with the same monitoring, deployment, and security processes. For customers, that means no trade-off between hosting preference and product capability: what they get in Singapore is what they'd get anywhere else Mimecast operates.
Where local hosting fits with compliance
In-region hosting answers a preference, not a regulatory requirement. An organization's compliance obligations apply no matter where its service is hosted. What changes with Singapore hosting is the starting point: customers in these markets now have a clear, straightforward answer about where their data lives, without having to weigh that against the strength of the platform behind it.
In partnership with AWS
Mimecast brought Singapore hosting online in partnership with AWS, meeting the same performance and reliability standards customers expect from Mimecast.
"Data residency has become a critical decision point for enterprises across Southeast Asia. By hosting Mimecast's platform in our Singapore region, we're helping organizations meet that requirement without sacrificing the advanced security and compliance capabilities they need. This deployment demonstrates how AWS infrastructure can be purpose-built to meet regional expectations while maintaining enterprise-grade performance and reliability," said Pravar Gautam, Director, APJ Partner Core at AWS.
The partnership extends beyond infrastructure. Mimecast and AWS are working together to give customers across the region access to the full Mimecast platform, hosted locally in Singapore.
The bottom line
New Mimecast customers in Singapore, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Taiwan and Thailand can now have their data stored and processed in Singapore from day one, on the same Mimecast platform that secures humans, data, and AI everywhere else. It's a clear answer for organizations that need to know exactly where their data lives, without asking them to settle for less to get it.
