Simplify email encryption for Office 365.
Users of Microsoft’s email encryption for Office 365 now have the option of sending secure emails. But while this data encryption software is a welcome addition to the platform, email encryption in Office 365 may not be sufficient for every user.
While Office 365 makes encryption easy for senders, recipients may have a more difficult time when it comes to accessing messages. Senders may need to set up costly mandatory TLS connections with business partners, or risk not being able to send secure email when a TLS connection is not available.
Mimecast Secure Messaging provides an easy-to-use encrypted email service that serves as a powerful complement for email encryption in Office 365. With Mimecast, data never leaves the secure Mimecast cloud, making it possible to send protected messages even when TLS encryption is not an option.
Mimecast’s solution provides a secure and cloud-based service that enables users to share sensitive information easily without the need for additional hardware or software for senders and recipients.
To enable Mimecast email encryption in Office 365, a user creates a new email in Outlook and clicks on the Mimecast tab within Mimecast for Outlook to select Send Secure. Before sending the email, users can select secure options from a list defined by administrators.
After the message is sent, the email and any attachments are uploaded to the Mimecast cloud where they are checked against content and data leak prevention policies, scanned for viruses and then stored in a secure AES encrypted archive.
In addition to enabling users to encrypt messages, Mimecast Secure Messaging also enables email encryption in Office 365 when messages meet specific administrator-defined criteria. These may include messages sent to a particular domain or recipient, when a user includes specific keywords in the subject line, or as a fallback option to enforce TLS.
