Mimecast Ensures Good Night’s Sleep for Sonesta’s IT Team

Hotelier Reduces Time Required To Retrieve Archived Email Tenfold and Drastically Reduces Spam to Enhance Employee Productivity

Mimecast®, a leading supplier of cloud-based email security, continuity, policy control and archiving, today announced that Sonesta Collection, a distinctive international collection of upscale hotels, resorts and cruise ships, has selected Mimecast to manage its email. With Mimecast, Sonesta has experienced seamless continuity with 100 percent email uptime, significantly improved archiving capabilities and decreased spam. Email is a critical application for Sonesta employees, who rely on it heavily for normal business operations and to ensure personal service and a memorable experience for guests. Prior to selecting Mimecast, Sonesta relied on an email redundancy tool that provided basic email capabilities but lacked many features including the ability to handle internal and external email and retain messages longer than 30 days. Additionally, the tool’s spam filter proved ineffective, bombarding Sonesta’s employees with spam. There were also regulatory issues to consider as Sonesta must adhere to both HIPAA and PCI and its solution did not automate compliance through email management which increased workload for its IT staff. After evaluating several email management solutions offering both traditional appliance models and cloud-based services, Sonesta selected Mimecast’s unified email management, the only solution to meet all its requirements.

“With Mimecast, I don’t worry about email outages anymore – Mimecast kicks in automatically, making it completely invisible to the outside world,” said Carol Campbell Beggs, Vice President, Technology, Sonesta Collection. “Mimecast’s integration with Exchange is the best I’ve seen – it provides our users with a familiar interface in the event of a Sonesta service outage. If such an event were to occur, the solution seamlessly rolls back to our servers after the outage is over with all the history saved. Mimecast is on a completely different level than our previous tool, there’s just no comparison.”

Mimecast has had a huge impact on the quality of email services the Sonesta Collection team provides and has contributed to increased employee productivity. Additional benefits Sonesta has experienced since implementing Mimecast include:

    • Automatic email backup which integrates seamlessly with Exchange
    • Two out of three inbound emails identified as spam and blocked from delivery, saving bandwidth and server space
    • Time required to recover archived messages reduced tenfol

“Email is a critical communications tool for Sonesta, like it is for most businesses, and ensuring that it is always on and working properly is something that shouldn’t be taken for granted,” said Mary Kay Roberto, Mimecast’s Executive Vice President and General Manager. “By providing simple, reliable email management, Sonesta enables its employees to focus on delivering an excellent customer experience and ensures that email never becomes a burden on their time.”
