Scope of Our GHG Emissions (Scope 1, 2 & 3)
We measure and manage our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across three scopes: Scope 1 (direct emissions from our operations), Scope 2 (indirect emissions from purchased energy), and Scope 3 (other indirect emissions in our value chain). Mimecast uses carbon accounting tools to track these emissions and is actively working to reduce them. Some of our facilities operate on renewable energy or purchase Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) to further lower our carbon footprint.
Mimecast Energy Conservation & Efficiency Initiatives
Mimecast has implemented several energy-saving measures, such as reducing lighting usage by 80% on select floors in our London European headquarters, which has led to 20% overall energy savings within the facilities. We monitor energy use for all global offices using our sustainability carbon accounting tool to minimize our environmental impact.
Mimecast Waste Management Initiatives
Our waste management strategy combines operational improvements with employee engagement. Mimecast London facilities use waste scales to track and analyze waste streams, training programs are offered in partnership with our waste vendor for staff to promote composting and recycling. These efforts help us reduce waste, improve recycling, and minimize our overall environmental footprint. We are exploring an expansion of these measurement initiatives in additional office locations.
Mimecast Water Management Efforts
Mimecast is dedicated to responsible water use. We provide awareness campaigns to encourage water conservation among employees and regularly monitor our water consumption. These initiatives are integrated into our environmental management program, helping us to monitor water usage and promote sustainable water practices throughout our facilities.
ESOS Program (Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme)
Mimecast participates in the UK’s Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS), a government-mandated initiative requiring large organizations to audit their energy use and identify efficiency opportunities. In compliance with ESOS Phase 3, Mimecast has developed a detailed Action Plan for savings and reduction of energy usage for the London facilities covering the period from December 2023 to December 2027. This plan targets measurable improvements in energy efficiency and carbon reduction, with projects including Building Energy Management System (BEMS) upgrades, enhanced control of miscellaneous electrical loads, and an ongoing staff energy conservation awareness program.
These efforts reinforce Mimecast’s commitment to supporting the UK’s government net zero goals and improving operational sustainability.
ISO 14001 Certification
In 2025, Mimecast achieved ISO 14001 certification, an internationally recognized standard for environmental management. This certification demonstrates our commitment to ongoing improvement, regulatory compliance, and robust environmental controls. It assures stakeholders that we have effective systems in place to monitor, manage, and reduce our environmental impact. Click here to learn more about this achievement.
Commitments and Disclosures
Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD)
Mimecast follows the TCFD framework to provide transparency on how we identify, manage, and address climate-related risks and opportunities. Our TCFD-aligned disclosures are organized across four key areas:
- Governance
- Strategy
- Risk Management
- Metrics and Target Setting
Mimecast’s adaptive ESG strategy addresses both physical (e.g., extreme weather events) and transition (e.g., regulatory) climate risks, with processes in place to assess and mitigate these risks across all global facilities and collaboration and partnership with data centers.
Upcoming California SB261 Climate Disclosure
Mimecast is preparing to comply with California’s SB261, which requires companies to meet certain thresholds to publicly disclose their climate-related financial risks and the measures they are taking to address them.
Starting 2026, Mimecast will report on how climate change could impact on our operations and finances, as well as the strategies we have in place to mitigate these risks. This disclosure will build on our TCFD-aligned reporting and demonstrates our commitment to transparency and responsible climate risk management in line with leading regulatory standards
Other Mandatory Reporting:
SECR (Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting)
Mimecast complies with the UK’s Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR), publishing annual data on energy use, carbon emissions, and energy efficiency actions for our UK operations.
Commitment to Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi)
Mimecast made a formal commitment to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) in 2025. This means our organization is preparing to set emissions reduction targets for scope 1, 2 & 3 that are aligned with climate science, reinforcing our dedication to meaningful climate action and supporting a sustainable future
