The National Basketball Association’s New Orleans Hornets Make Mimecast Its Official Email Management Partner

Perennial Playoff Contender Ensures the Organization Rebounds in the Face of Natural Disasters with Cloud-Based Unified Email Management Solution

Waltham, Mass. – Mimecast®, a leading supplier of cloud-based email security, continuity and archiving, today announced that the National Basketball Association’s (NBA) New Orleans Hornets will be using the cloud-based Mimecast Unified Email Management (UEM) solution to manage, archive, secure and ensure the  availability of its email system to any web-enabled computer.

Commenting on the partnership, the Hornets’ VP of Information Technology Tod Caflisch said, “Mimecast’s high-level integration with Microsoft Exchange allows us to bolster email operations without having to train staff on how to access archived email. Additionally, we are providing a layer of organizational security by archiving email in the cloud, where our employees’ messages will be available as-needed from any web-connected computer.” Caflisch continued, “Knowing that our organization’s critical information is protected in the face of a natural disaster is a huge relief.”

The New Orleans Hornets receive and send thousands of emails each day. Email is critical to the organization as everything from potential player trades to third-party vendor relations is handled through the communication channel. After Hurricane Katrina inflicted significant damage to the Hornets’ headquarters, the organization decided to take measures to ensure its operations would never be so heavily impacted again. One of these precautions was to remotely locate the Hornets’ email system – but a steadily increasing email volume began to reap significant costs and led the organization to look for alternatives.

“Business continuity in the wake of severe weather is proving to be a primary motivating factor for organizations migrating business applications to the cloud,” said Mimecast Vice President of Marketing, North America Samantha Stone.  “Sound business continuity practices start by ensuring critical data’s safety and accessibility – and the easiest means of doing this is with cloud-based solutions. Mimecast customers not only receive the peace of mind of knowing their data is safe, but also flatten the cost of managing their email by simplifying the IT environment.”
