Cookies and Data Collection Tools
For almost any website to work properly, it needs to collect certain basic information on its users. To do this, Mimecast uses tools such as, but not limited to, pixel, widgets and fingerprinting. Some of these tools may create files known as 'cookies' – which are small text files – on its users' computers. These cookies are designed to allow the website to recognize its users on subsequent visits, or to authorize other designated websites to recognize these users for a particular purpose.
Cookies and other data collection tools do a lot of different jobs which make your experience of the Internet much smoother and more interactive. For instance, they are used to remember your preferences on sites you visit often, to provide you with relevant content and to help you navigate between pages more efficiently. They also help ensure that the advertisements that you see online are more relevant to you and your interests.
What Information do we collect about you?
- IP address, approximate location (country/region/city), browser, operating system, device type, language, and referring URL
- Date, time, pages visited, and how you interact with the site (clicks, scrolling, mouse movement, video views, form activity)
- Unique identifiers stored in cookies, local storage, or similar technologies used to recognize your browser or device
- Inferred company information linked to your IP address (e.g. company name, industry, size) from third-party providers
- Information you submit through forms, such as name, business email, phone number, job title, and company
- Technical request data, including HTTP status codes, used for site reliability and security
- Behavioral signals and inferred account data collected on this site may be processed by third-party platforms using automated analysis and predictive modeling to assess purchase intent, segment visitors into audiences, and inform advertising targeting decisions
- Where you submit contact information, your details may be used to generate pseudonymous identifiers that are shared with third-party advertising and intent-data platforms to enable cross-site targeting, audience modeling, and measurement
What types of cookie are there?
Generally, there are four types of cookies: strictly necessary cookies, performance cookies, functionality cookies and targeting or advertising cookies.
Furthermore, these cookies break down into two further sub-types.
- Persistent cookies remain on a user's device for a set period of time specified in the cookie. They are activated each time that the user visits the website that created that particular cookie.
- Session cookies are temporary. They allow website operators to link the actions of a user during a browser session. A browser session starts when a user opens the browser window and finishes when they close the browser window. Once you close the browser, all session cookies are deleted.
Managing Cookies
Most web browsers allow you to manage your cookie preferences directly through their settings. You can choose to block or delete cookies, including those already set, at any time. These settings are typically found in the "Privacy" or "Security" section of your browser's options or preferences menu. Please note that blocking certain types of cookies, especially essential ones, may impact the functionality and performance of our website.
