A global financial services group was experiencing several email security and delivery challenges that were disrupting the business. The leader of the company’s IT and cybersecurity teams knew he had to make a change to protect the company and its customers, and restore faith with end users.

“Brand impersonation emails claiming to be from our CEO asking employees to transfer money were consistently making it through our secure mail gateway, as were emails purporting to be from customers with a transaction question, which would include malicious attachments designed to look like transfer receipts,” he says. “On top of these security issues, our old email security solution would quarantine false positive emails, so they were never sent to recipients, and sandboxed emails caused a significant lag time between analysis and delivery.”
He continues: “All of these issues were causing end users to lose confidence in our security and our ability to efficiently deliver email. I started looking for an advanced email security provider that would help us enhance email protection, while guaranteeing seamless email delivery, and thankfully I found Mimecast.”
The financial services group signed on with Mimecast in late 2020, and by early 2021, it was up and running with Mimecast Email Security.

He also notes that, with Mimecast Email Security’s artificial intelligence (AI) for impersonation detection, now all impersonation emails are blocked – solving one of his biggest pain points. He also credits Mimecast with improving policy management, especially in regard to file attachments. “With our old provider, we had to manually list out all of the file types and attachments that should be whitelisted and blacklisted,” he says. “Not only was this time consuming, but it introduced human error into the process, increasing security risk. Mimecast Email Security is an out-of-the-box solution that enables us to create robust policies with a few clicks of the mouse.”
In addition to improving the company’s email security, Mimecast provides the financial group with a seamless email delivery process. The IT and cybersecurity leader comments: “Mimecast not only stops email-based threats, but the company has dramatically cut down on the number of false positive emails, and email delivery is lightning fast.”
The financial services group recently integrated Mimecast Email Security with the company’s security information and event management (SIEM) solution from Rapid7, which has automated and expedited the reporting process. The company is now working to integrate Mimecast with its Rapid7 security orchestration, automation, and response (SOAR) solution to block account compromise emails. These integrations are simple, thanks to Mimecast’s extensive library of APIs for best-of-breed security tools such as Rapid7’s.
