Mimecast has partnered with Human Doings and iSchoolAfrica to launch #FuelForChange – a project aimed to guide the children of today in becoming the business leaders of tomorrow.
There is such a need in South Africa to find new and creative ways of making positive changes and education is an important foundation for future innovation.
Emfundisweni Primary is a primary school in Alexandra – an informal settlement in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Watch our video as we set off on this exciting journey with 194 enthusiastic students, four passionate teachers and one school that is doing everything possible to prevent its disadvantaged past from impacting on the success of its future.
Mimecast South Africa recently partnered with Human Doings to send a Mobile Health Clinic to Emfundisweni Primary School in Alexandra. Poor performance at school is often attributed to health issues such as poor hearing or eye sight.
But this can be easily identified and rectified through primary health care. Because of this we decided to send a 12 metre bus with healthcare practitioners to assist 216 grade 2 and grade 6 learners.
The bus housed three examination rooms, with a fully qualified nurse, an optometrist and an oral hygienist. The purpose of the Mobile Clinic was to deliver preventative healthcare services to the children and provide on-site medical assistance and referrals for more serious issues.
The Mimecast South Africa team hosted a fun day to spend time with the teachers and grade 2 children of Emfundisweni Primary School in Alexandra. It was a fantastic morning out, complete with a playground and jumping castles, and we arranged several fun activities like painting, soccer and yoga.
The children have been hard at work all year, improving their numeracy skills with the iPads we donated, so the fun day was an opportunity for them to relax and have fun!
Following the success of last year’s iPad programme at Emfundisweni Primary School, we decided to return this year and continue the project. We have donated more iPads, loaded with the apps required to improve numeracy skills from foundation phase.
We’ve already seen phenomenal results and we’re excited to assist Emfundisweni in its quest to become a fully equipped IT school.
