When moving to cloud-based email, security fears are at the forefront.
The move to Microsoft Office 365TM is driven by the benefits of transitioning to a cloud-based solution, including reduced hardware and maintenance costs. At the same time, Office 365TM brings a new level of flexibility and agility to organizations. But what is less discussed is its inherent email security limitations. So, it’s no wonder that in a commissioned survey of 220 global IT professionals, Forrester Consulting uncovered that 44% of respondents said they would review security implications more thoroughly if they were to deploy a cloud-based email platform again.
In the 2017 Forrester study, Closing the Cloud Email Security Gap: Secure Your Move to Cloud-Based Email with a Trusted Third-Party Security Service Provider, Forrester summarizes the survey results and the challenges that organizations both need to understand and prepare for prior to migrating to a cloud environment.
The bottom line is that organizations are recognizing there are gaps in the security capabilities between what they can acquire from their cloud email platform provider and what’s needed to provide sufficient email security. Some key findings include:
- Only 5% of organizations are very confident in the overall security capabilities of their chosen email cloud provider.
- 35% of respondents said the lack of visibility or access to their security status from their cloud email provider proves challenging.
- Additional supporting services are key criteria when selecting cloud-based email platform.
Learn how organizations can proactively address the email security challenges of cloud-based email so that it’s not a post-migration afterthought.
