Surviving Gustav with your business intact

Mimecast Offshore’s Caribbean customers had one less thing to worry about during their recent close encounter with hurricane Gustav. While they were bracing themselves for the category 2 hurricane, their data laid safe in multiple data centres in the Channel Islands – an area not known for its inclement weather.
Customers with specific data domicile requirements who face the threat of hurricanes every year may find the service of benefit to them. With customers able to achieve the panacea of zero Recovery Point Objective (RPO) and zero Recovery Time Objective (RTO) without the need to invest in expensive high-availability clustering to a hot site outside of the path of the hurricane.
Users are able to continue to work from anywhere they can get an Internet connection – including mobile devices. If they can’t get an Internet connection, their email will await them when they can - automatically updating the corporate mail server with all incoming and outgoing email since the outage.
It is not just about keeping the email up during hurricanes, it is about ensuring the continued risk mitigation from spam, malware and phishing; ensuring that policies and procedures remain enforced and ensuring that retention for compliance continues. Building high-availability clustering for all these components in a territory with frequent outages can be an expensive proposition – redirecting the email away from the problem on a global scale offers a sensible solution.
