The team

  • Peter Bauer

    Chief Executive Officer

The driving force and public face of the business, Peter founded Mimecast in 2003 with CTO, Neil Murray.

With the support of angel investors, loyal customers and a strong management team, Peter has overseen eight years of continual growth. We now have more than 5000 customers, 300 staff and 65% of UK's Top 100 law firms globally.

Peter’s career began in South Africa, where, after studying marketing and founding a successful distribution company, he trained as a Microsoft systems engineer and began working with corporate messaging systems. He founded his first technology company, FAB Technology, in the mid-nineties.

A leading integrator of new internet and messaging technologies, the business grew rapidly and was acquired in 1998 by Idion, a JSE-listed technology business. Peter became Idion Group Managing Director, a role he stayed in until, observing trends in internet business services, he decided to move to the UK.

  • Neil Murray

    Chief Technology Officer

Neil is one of the people who helped build Mimecast. Not just metaphorically, but literally. He’s led the development team from our inception – when he was the development team – overseeing the construction of our platform from the ground up. It’s thanks to him that Mimecast, uniquely, was conceived and built as a single, integrated platform rather a set of bolted-together services.

Today he oversees the architecture of the service platform and sets out the overall technical vision and strategy for the service.

Before Mimecast, Neil was the CTO of South African, JSE-listed, Global Technology Services, a provider of business information solutions, which had bought Pro-Solutions, a software development company he helped found in the early 90s.

Neil’s 20 year-career also includes experience architecting and building leading software products for internet banking, messaging and rapid application development.

  • Peter Campbell

    Chief Financial Officer

Peter was hired as CFO of Mimecast in 2006. He is responsible for overseeing the Company’s global financial strategy and operations. Since joining the organization as employee number 14, Peter has built a global team to meet the ever-changing financial and operational demands of a rapidly growing SaaS business. It now encompasses Finance, Human Resources, IT systems, Legal, Facilities Management and Admin.  Peter was a driving figure in securing the investment from Index Ventures and Dawn Capital in 2009 and the various Angel funding rounds that preceded them.

Peter brought 15 years experience in the IT sector to Mimecast. Prior to joining he was CFO of SR Telecom, a Nasdaq listed company with over 500 staff and operations in 26 countries, based in Montreal, Canada. Having joined as Assistant Controller, Peter was rapidly promoted through the ranks and was a key team member in securing the SEC listing and successful acquisitions including the $121M takeover of Netro Corporation.

Peter holds a Chartered Accountant Designation with the Canadian Order of Chartered Accountants, and is a Certified Public Accountant.

  • Keith Wallington

    Chief Customer Officer

Keith is our Chief Customer Officer, giving him responsibility for all aspects of Mimecast that affect the experience of existing or prospective customers.

He brings joined-up thinking to our marketing, service delivery, account management, customer facing systems development, and customer education teams. It’s a role perfectly suited to his background in business strategy and management.

Keith joined Mimecast in 2008 after having spent seven years driving disruptive business models in the telecommunications sector in both incumbent telcos and start ups.

Over the past ten years, Keith has worked across banking, media and telecoms, consulting on consumer adoption of new technologies – like IP telephony and mobile money transfers – and developing business, marketing and media strategies.

  • Garth Wittles

Senior Vice President & General Manager, South Africa

Garth runs our South African region, a position he’s held since setting up Mimecast South Africa in 2003. In that time, he’s overseen continued success, including a spectacular five-year growth rate of over 7,500%, establishing Mimecast as the market leader in SaaS in the region.

Joining Mimecast was a natural extension of his nearly 20-year career in regional market development for niche international software vendors primarily in the field of knowledge management.

His achievements include successfully introducing and establishing presences in Southern Africa for Siebel (now Oracle), Keyfile EDM & BPM (now Global360) and Verity (now Autonomy).

  • Alan Kenny

    General Manager, Mimecast Europe

Alan joined Mimecast in 2008 as UK Sales Director, and built the sales and channel organisation that has established Mimecast as a leading player in the UK SaaS scene, with over 2500 customers and loyal partner community of 300 VARs and System Integrators. This growth has seen Mimecast consistently highlighted as one of the fastest growing technology businesses in the UK, mostly recently ranking 7th in the UK Deloitte Technology Fast 50.  In October Alan was promoted to the role of General Manager for Europe, with a remit to maintain UK momentum while growing Mimecast's European customer base.

Prior to joining Mimecast Alan spent five years with SurfControl, where he played many roles including Channel Development Director, Mid-Market Sales Director and Channel Director, during which time the UK operation grew to be a £17m annual turnover business.

He also spent three years cutting his teeth in sales at security Specialist, Vistorm.

  • Mark Bilbe

    General Manager, Mimecast North America

Mark is responsible for running the Mimecast North American operation. Mark joined Mimecast in 2005 as the company's third employee. After helping to put Mimecast on the map in the UK market, Mark moved to the US in 2007 to assist the launch of Mimecast North America. In October 2011, he was promoted to General Manager, Mimecast North America, a business that now has more than 1,000 customers, 400,000 users and a US staff rapidly approaching 100.

Prior to joining Mimecast, Mark completed a Ph.D. in African History at St John's College, Cambridge, following a brief spell at McKinsey & Co in London.

Outside work Mark enjoys writing, fishing and spending time outdoors in beautiful New England with his family.
