Anti-Spam, Malware Security Analyst
Job Purpose
The Mimecast Messaging Security Team is a specialist team who utilize a network of honey pots that attract and aggregate both spam and malware in the wild. This, coupled with community provided intelligence, allows Mimecast to provide detection and protection mechanisms against spam and malware easily and effectively to accommodate the rapidly evolving techniques used by spammers.
The candidate with work closely with team members and other Mimecast operations globally to constantly improve our services and ensure consistent levels of spam and malware protection.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
The analysis & detection of spam and malware using a combination of methods including but not exclusive to:
- Email traffic analysis and malicious activity detection
- Immediate response to new threats – writing Regular Expression rules & IP reputation blocking
- Real-time Block Lists, Real-time Allow Lists and URI Block Lists maintenance
- Research of spam and malware characteristics to provide detection techniques to strengthen the anti-spam and anti-malware service offerings, including threat forecasts and trend predictions
- Provide 3rd line support to global Service Delivery teams for spam and malware related issues or queries
- Assist Technical Operations with back-end support of Mimecast Anti-Spam and Anti-Malware services to maintain high levels of service
- Assist global Support Teams with the creation of Regular Expressions for customer specific queries
- Monitor spam submissions, virus alerts and sender feedback mailboxes
- Provide industry leading levels of support to all customers at all times
The Candidate
The candidate must possess a background in an IT Security customer support or an IT Security Administration environment and a sound understanding of email services.
Basic Skills Required
- Programming (preferably PHP and/or Perl or C/C++)
- Database design and SQL language
- Basic knowledge of one of DBMS (preferably MySQL and/or PostgreSQL)
- HTML and CSS
- Email traffic management and routing

- TCP/IP
- DNS
- IMAP
- SSL/TLS
